Management of osteoporosis during martial law: the experience of the Ukrainian Center of Osteoporosis and the challenges of war

Background. Russian aggression has had a critical impact on the provision of medical care to patients in Ukraine, general, and with osteoporosis its complications, particular. Destruction hospitals, limited access emergency planned care, increased workload some hospitals due significant number refugees internally displaced persons are only problems faced by Ukrainian community. The purpose study was analyze peculiarities providing diagnostic advisory at Scientific Medical Center Osteoporosis (Kyiv) during martial law order determine main challenges associated military possibilities their elimination. Materials methods. In retrospective analysis data, Center’s activity 2019–2022 evaluated depending month year observation, age gender examinees, type patients’ visit (on-line or off-line). Results. confirmed decrease dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) procedures consultations various specialists from beginning Ukraine. resumption work, despite difficulties related logistical other reasons, took place after 2 weeks on-line format 1.5 months start (off-line). Despite DXA (by 84.3% April 24.7% May 2022 compared indices same 2019) off-line 93.6% March, 66% April, 11.2% law, work characterized implementation consultations, share which first russian invasion 66–100% all consultations.
